We Found One!!!

Huzzah! We found a car today.

I have put more miles under my butt today than I'd care to think about. Between drivng down to the airport for a homeschool conference this morning and then driving around to look at Craig's List cars I have covered the greater geographical regions of Metro Atlanta - South, Northeast and Northwest. But, finally, I am happy to say, Kathryn now has her her own car; a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. We finally found it way up and over in Acworth. For those you you unfamiliar with the basic geographic layout of Atlanta, let me illustrate.

1 = where we live
2 = airport convention center (48 miles from #1 to #2 just to get an idea of scale)
3 = first car appointment and various car lots
4 = final car appointment

So order of events today...
1 -> 2
2 -> 1
1 -> 3
3 -> 1
1 ->4
4 -> 1

We looked at a couple other cars or lotstoday but either their CarFax turned us off or the car just wasn't the best or the price was prohibitive. Luckily the guy that sold us this one was home and available for us to come by and see the car. The funny part is, we went to see a Ford Escort but it wasn't the car for us. So this guy tells us he has a Sunfire for the same price. It turns out this guy is a car dealer that sells out of his home! He had about 5 cars he was actively selling from his house and his phone was constantly ringing and he had 3 customers while we were there. It was a good thing I guess. He had more than one option for us to look at when we turned down the Escort. I'll call it Kismet, Kathryn will call it, "a WIN!".

Here is Kathryn all happy after we decided to get the car.

Checking out how she looks from behind the wheel.

Driving it home, enjoying some interstate time.

For the money we paid, it is a good car. There are a couple things we want checked out by our mechanic on Monday (there seems to be an exhaust issue) but really not too much to worry about. The only glaring things were cosmetic; the windshield needs to be replaced (it's cracked) and it could stand a new paint job, but that can wait. Other than that everything else seems to be pretty good for a 9 year old car. It's doesn't have a ton of extras, the windows and locks are manual, the radio is a crappy aftermarket one and the interior is pretty spartan, but it is a car and it is Kathryn's. She's a happy girl right now! I'm pretty happy too. It think it is just enough sport car to make her happy and not so much sport car to make me worry.

Kathryn plans on getting up early and driving herself to church in the morning and then she has to stay for Admistrative Council afterward. Butch and I can come and go at our leisure on our schedule, not Kathryn's now - whoo Hoo!! Despite my melencholy of Kathryn growing up, there are certain perks to it! Now to just pray she stays safe driving it! :-/
